Congratulations on Your New Job, Amanda!

October 22, 2025

Amanda has been a valued Trustee for the Bow Island and District Health Foundation for the past year. Although we are excited for her new career opportunities, we are very sorry to lose her specialized knowledge, skills, expertise and as a Foundation Trustee.

We asked Amanda to share a bit about herself and her role here in Bow Island!

"My name is Amanda Kusters, I have been a dedicated Rehabilitation Practitioner since 2018,currently working at Alfred Egan Home. My journey in therapeutic recreation began with a Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation - Gerontology in 2016, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation in 2018.

My career in healthcare began in 2012 at the Bow Island Health Centre, where I worked in the kitchen serving desserts and drinks to Long-Term Care residents. My passion for enhancing residents’ quality of life led me to pursue a role that offered more direct engagement as a Rehabilitation Care Worker at Alfred Egan Home, from planning in-house activities to late-night adventures with residents.

I started my fulltime career as a Rehabilitation Practitioner at the Special Development Unit in Fort Macleod Health Centre in 2018 before transferring to Alfred Egan Home in 2021. Since then, I have created countless cherished memories with residents—from road trips to Vancouver to hosting “Friendsgiving” in the Dayroom.

I am especially grateful for the support of the Bow Island and District Health Foundation, whose generosity has helped enrich the lives of residents. Thanks to their contributions, programs such as sensory baking have grown. The foundation also provided a new TV for enjoying audiobooks, music, and movies, as well as a Tovertafel interactive gaming unit—a valuable tool for residents living with memory and intellectual disabilities at Bow Island Health Centre.

As I move forward in my career, I am excited to take on a new role as a Recreation Therapist at the Peace River Community Health Centre and the Grimshaw/Berwyn and District Community Health Centre."

As Amanda leaves our community, we want to thank her for all she has done to enhance health care for the residents she has cared for and for her many contributions to the Bow Island & District Health Foundation.
